The Melbourne Cricket Ground rocked to Midnight Oil, Crowded House, Kylie and others all to benefit the victims of the Australian bushfires. The Age puts it this way:
“One vision, one people, one landmass, we are defenceless, we have a lifeline,” he sang on the moving One Country. “One element, one moment, one fusion, yes and one time,” before segueing into a Jimi Hendrix-style Advance Australia Fair.
There were many other songs that seemed as if they were written especially for the day (Crowded House’s Four Seasons in One Day and Don’t Dream It’s Over) and Hunters & Collectors (When the River Runs Dry and Holy Grail) and Paul Kelly (Leaps and Bounds, Meet Me in the Middle of the Air). But it’s Garrett and the Oils that managed to best articulate how we felt, without the cliches
A good time was had by all.
And hheerrees Kylie

Beautifully understated and effortless

The one minutes silence before her performance brought a tear or two to my eyes. Thank you Kylie for coming home to Melbourne and stirring the emotions of many Aussies.

I mean, markwands, Kylie, being known more for her great shaped arse, than her, (I can,t use the word singer or vocalist) ability to crucify a key, register, note. What is it with that nasal sound?
18 ParArdua // Mar 17, 2009 at 4:38 am
I agree Cracker95, and wrapping themselves in their flags – full of hate and violence. Those morons are an embarrassment, aping ignorant American nationalism. The concerts were a coming together, to boost spirits and funds, to maybe help people rebuild from the ashes of their lives.
19 markwands // Mar 17, 2009 at 9:50 am
aw don’t be like that.Whether you like her or not Kylie has one of the greatest pop voices in music history. She’s always had that slight “nasal” quality but it makes her distinctive. She is most definitely not known for her arse and the girl rarely sings out of key so neeerrrrrr.

44 workingclasstheist // Apr 5, 2009 at 5:01 am
Thinking about black saturday still brings me to tears. Something that I probably will never be able to get over. And the overwhelming support Australians (as usual) gave financially etc is simply amazing.I couldn’t give much money, although my sister did lost everything she owned (she was in Flowerdale) and I did everything I could do to help her out emotionally.Black Saturday isn’t something we should forget too quickly. Thank God for the CFA and Red Cross. Thank You Australia!

67 bighungrybear20 // Aug 29, 2009 at 12:22 am
i agree. for those of you who shouted during the silence, fuck you and you should be ashamed of yourself. the whole point of that silence was to pay respect to the aussies who had died in the bushfires and there you are trying to start chants.
68 Ellectrika1 // Sep 8, 2009 at 12:34 am
Absolutely!! Well said!!
69 bighungrybear20 // Sep 8, 2009 at 3:15 am

Marcia owned Kylie at Sound Relief – OWNED. Kylie comes across as a princess, marcia a pro.
75 sideholio // Nov 13, 2009 at 12:20 am
she is a pom now too!
76 hellojimperry // Dec 8, 2009 at 1:27 pm
Sideholio, I don’t even know who Marcia is, but Kylie deserves a lot more credit than you are giving her. Kylie went onstage without her usual hard work and intense preparation, risking her “Pop Princess ” reputation to bare herself and give something from the heart. It takes courage to be so vulnerable in so public a way, and FYI : she nailed it. That is where she is at in her career and we AMERICANS are just discovering her . Maybe when you grow up, you will appreciate her as well. Your Loss .
